Is the Lincoln Memorial within walking distance from the Washington Monument? |
Travel Info If yes, about how many minutes would it take? Travel Tips Absolutely. It's about a half hour walk. I used to walk it often when I went to college in DC. Don't listen to the guy who says it's not safe. I used to walk the Mall at night with a couple of female friends sometimes and it's plenty safe. There are several memorials in between, the reflecting pool, a fairly busy street, and a pond in between the two memorials. If you're planning to see the Mall, the best way is to walk. There are plenty of paths and the Metro won't get you very close to the Lincoln memorial (the nearest stops are Smithsonian which is preferred and Foggy Bottom/GWU which is a walk through a college campus instead of along the beautiful Mall). It's not a bad walk at all from the Washington to the Lincoln but take bottled water with you because you don't want to have to buy it there. Source(s): I'm a former DC resident. Other Travel Tips Washington, DC is not a safe area for a pretty woman like you to be walking. But it's within walking distance. Maybe 15 minutes. Yes, but you're looking at a 30-40 minute walk rather than a 15 minute walk - one could probably jog there in 15 minutes or less. The two monuments are a mile apart. How long does it take you to walk a mile? That is how long it will take. The area is completely safe - I recommend people even do this walk at night, since it is so beautiful at that time. You might take longer to linger in Contstitution Gardens, or watch the ducks on the Reflecting Pool, or visit one of the memorials between the two - the WWII Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Korean War Memorial. http://www.washingtontravelcast.com... I live here and do a travel podcast. Yeah. It is. When I walked there, it was about 45 minutes or so but I did buy an icecream cone on the way there, so it would be about 40 minutes or so. |
