What's the best way to get from Baltimore to DC late night in time to catch the Metro? |
Travel Info I'm heading to concert with a friend and the show will likely go beyond the 10:10 Amtrak train to Union Station and the next train will be a lot more expensive ($40/per). We'd wait for the last train, but the catch is we need to get home in time to catch the DC Metro, which shuts down at midnight. Does anyone know the best, least expensive way to get to Union Station from Penn station before 12 a.m.? Travel Tips Let's assume the concert is at First Mariner Arena - Baltimore & Howard Sts. The last southbound MARC train leaves Penn Station at 9:30 PM so that option is closed to you. At or about 12:02 AM - the last southbound Light Rail train to BWI Airport arrives. At 12:36 AM, you arrive at BWI Airport. The next Amtrak train arrives at BWI Train Station at 12:53 AM but that train left Penn Station at 12:40 AM. Sounds like this is the $40 train because the next Amtrak train leaves Penn Station at 6:10 AM. I hate to say this but between DC Metro and Amtrak & Baltimore's Transit system, you are unable to take public transportation back home with enough time to catch Metro. If the concert ends at 11 PM, I would see if a taxi would take you to Greenbelt Metro Station for $50 - I've done this myself 2 or 3 times when I was stranded for different reasons. Otherwise, drive like everyone else does. Others You could try driving to college park and getting the metro there to dc, then take the metro from dc to college park and drive back to baltimore. That would save a little bit of time. Either walk or catch a hack. catch the marc trian which is only 7 dollars from penn station and the last one is about 11 so you will be fine it takes you straight to union station. i catch the train almost every week The only other option is to go greyhound, they usually have a bus that leaves every hour. Pretty cheap was around $10, but the bus station in Bmore is downtown. You can try to take a bus or light rail from penn station, since their buses are 24 hours. Also if its fri or sat DC metro stays open later, and our bus runs until 4 everyday. |
