Jersey to Williamsburg,VA?

We are leaving Jersey on Tuesday for Williamsburg. Not sure about what time we are leaving.
What is a better route 95 or take the ferry, and if 95 is there a way to miss dc traffic.

Take I-95 Exit 1 in DE South - becomes US 301 - cross Bay Bridge and remain on US 301 South. Cross over Potomac and make left turn on US 17. Take Colonial Pkwy exit north to Williamsburg.

I went the ferry route one time and hd to wait 4 hours for the ferry. To avoid traffic around D.C. take the beltway, I 495.
go west on the belt way towards bethesda DO NOT go the other way, construction on a bridge there that is taking years. If you're not in a hurry the ferry is real pretty.
