Travel Tips
Here are some ideas:

1. You say you've done the Washington Monument and the Wall - have you done the Lincoln Memorial, the World War II memorial, the FDR memorial and/or the Jefferson Memorial. All these are worth doing.

2. You say you've done the science museum. I hope you realize there are a dozen Smithsonian museums and a total of more than 80 museums in the DC area. I am guessing that by science museum you mean either the National Air and Space Museum or the National Museum of Natural History. Here are a few others, some of which will pique your interest in history.
- The National Museum of the American Indian - between Air and Space and the botanical Gardens.
- The National Holocaust Memorial Museum - moving, educational, great history museum, as well as incredible story that should bet told.
- The Spy Museum. Washington is a City of spies, and this museum traces the history of that profession, the tools of the profession, and the like. This museum costs money, though, it is not free like the Smithsonian.

The National Archives. Come see the original Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights, not to mention the Magna Carta. Great historical documents.

The Capitol Building - you can tour this for free. It's a fairly short tour, but you get to see the dome, statuary hall and the crypt.

Mount Vernon - George Washington's home - south of Washington in Virginia. As the Washington's left it. And Washington's grave.

Georgetown - get off the shopping streets and check out the 18th and 19th century houses, some of which you can tour. Check out the stone house, the oldest house in DC.

Old Town Alexandria. This was the big city when George was in town - DC was a clueless little rural hamlet. You can still see what it was like at places like Gadsby's tavern and the churches.

Shaw/UStreet - this neighborhood was black broadway in the first twenty years of the 20th century, and was a middle class black suburb for much longer. There is a walking tour on signs from the U Street/Cardozo metro station. Duke Ellington grew up here.

Other Travel Tips
arlington national cemetary is very nice. my grandparents are there. have fun!!
Old Town Alexandria is one of my favorite places in the DC Area. There are lots of old houses and old-house museums, lots of shopping, and if you have a car rental take the George Washington Memorial Parkway, there are a lot of little parks and great views of the city all along this parkway.
