What Metro station in DC is the closest to the Lincoln Memorial? |
Travel Info I want to go play volleyball at the courts near there. Which station is the shortest walking distance? Travel Tips If you are going to the volleyball courts, I would take the Foggy Bottom Metro (orange or blue lines) or the Arlington Cemetary (blue line) stops. Both of these places are about 1 mile from the volley ball courts. The Smithsonian stop is about 1.7 miles from the courts. I say that Foggy Bottom is about a mile but walking is tricky. The courts are off of the path going around the Potomac, and to get onto that walk/bike path, go west when you get off of the metro (on 23rd St) and get onto 25th street. Then take F street (it goes right between the Kennedy Center and the Watergate) to cross over onto the pathway. Walking from the cemetary is less tricky, you may want to try that if you're unfamiliar with the area. Good luck. Others Metro stop is Blue / Orange Lines - Foggy Bottom, Arlington Cemetery or Metro stop: Smithsonian The Smithothian stop on the blue line is the cloest to the Monument. Edit: You can use foggy of arlington cemetary as mentioned above but it is a bit of a hike Live in Northern Virginia There are three stations, all around a mile from the Lincoln Memorial. The first is the Smithsonian station, which comes out in the middle of the mall. I think of the three this is the furthest, but it's a little bit closer if you don't get off on the mall, but instead on Independence avenue. That exit is a little bit further west. The second closest is the Foggy Bottom Metro. As the crow flies it is the closest, but you have to actually walk back down the mall a ways to cross over Constitution avenue. You can't just do it at the end of 23rd street, since that is where a lot of traffic comes together to go over the bridge. The shortest walk may very well be from the Arlington Cemetery station over the Memorial Bridge. It gets a little confusing once you get to the memorial, but that should not be a problem if you are a local, and if you are talking about the volleyball courts in West Potomac Park, you are right. google maps, and my own experience. |
