Planning DC Family Trip - Which hotel is better JW Marriott or L'Enfant Plaza? |
Travel Info Trying to figure out which hotel would be a better ortion for a family trip to the DC area in July. The choices are the JW Marriott on Pennsylvania Avenue or the L'Enfant Plaza Hotel. If you know about these two then let me know your thoughts. Travel Tips The Loews L'enfant Plaza is fairly quiet, and right on a metro station (I mean right in the basement) but it is not in the center of things like the J. W. Marriott is. The Marriott is right on Freedom Plaza, less than two blocks from the White House, less than two blocks from the mall, less than two blocks from a metro station. L'Enfant Plaza really closes up after 6 or so - the Metro Center area stays pretty awake after dark, and is close to a lot more restaurants and the like. As I've never slept in either, I can't reflect on the rooms. Others both are pretty pricey... the marriott is closer to the white house etc, but the l'enfant plaza is so pretty and it's very nice, ive always wanted to stay there. i know that the marriott will be under some kind of construction work during july, so whether that bothers you or not i dont know. traffic is always bad no matter where you go in dc in july. i would go with l'enfant, but i guess it depends on your budget. Both are good, but pricey. All else being equal, I'd probably pick the Marriott. The L'Enfant is right above a Metro station, so if you're planning to do any significant amount of subway travel, that would be very helpful. And don't worry about subway noise - you absolutely cannot hear it at ground level. The Marriott is in a much much more interesting historic area near the White House and downtown. L'Enfant Plaza is a bunch of concrete boxes. |
