Travel Info What is the best way to get to dc from fredericksburg/stafford va via public transportation? Travel Tips There is the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) commuter trains going into and out of Washington DC. You didn't say whether your question dealt with moving in that farther location or whether you were interested from a temporary vacation point of view but FYI if coming from the south via automobile driving along I-95 from Richmond or further south, there is a METRORAIL STOP at the Franconia-Springfield Mall on the BLUE LINE which offers a big parking garage. Also Huntington Metro Stop is accessible if coming up US Highway #1 or driving along I-495 Outer Loop towards but before Wilson Bridge. It too has parking but I believe Springfield Mall and depending on the day of the week you are visiting would impact which Metro Stop is best for your needs. Others You can take Amtrak from Union Station to the Fredericksburg Station. Follow the link below for information. http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/contentser... From Fredrericksburg, take the VRE train to union station in DC. It runs more frequently than Amtrak, and is likely cheaper. http://www.vre.org/service/schedule.htm... Greyhound bus is an alternative option, but not ideal compared to the train. I would try the VRE Virginia Railway Express. I know it runs during the week but don't know about the weekend. http://www.vre.org |
