Your best bet will be to check out consignment shops. There are quite a few in Georgetown and Eastern Market. There's also a flea market at Eastern Market on Saturdays that's always full of unique (and often handmade) stuff.
Others
Pentagon City Mall.
Try some of the local boutique shops.There are some on U st, in Adams Morgan and Georgetown.
