Washington DC hotels..need one near zoo!?

Travel Info
Hi! Anyone familiar with hotels in DC, within walking distance of the ZOO, WITH A POOL? Seems to be impossible to find, without costing an arm and a leg! Any ideas? Thanks!

Travel Tips
A cheap hotel, with a pool, within walking distance of the zoo- you're right, that is going to be impossible to find. DC is an urban city and a popular tourist destination, so not many hotels have pools and rates are going to be higher than they would be in the midwest. The zoo is located in a residential neighborhood, so hotels are a little few and far between in that area anyway.

The Marriott and Omni Shoreham are the only hotels that are really within walking distance of the Zoo. Both are going to be expensive.

The best option as far as I'm concerned is the Days Inn, which is north of the Zoo on Connecticut. This is where my family stays when they visit, even if we're not going to the zoo. They don't have a pool, but it's clean, close and rates are some of the most reasonable in DC.

A better option may be to stay in a hotel that is located on a Metro line, and take the subway to the Zoo. The Metro is clean, cheap, and runs quite often. I wouldn't go so far out as Gaithersburg, but if you can find a hotel that's near a metro stop, you'll have the gateway to the city. Arlington, Virginia is nearby and a quick ride into the city on the Blue or Orange metro lines. Orbitz shows hotels in the Dupont Circle and White House area from 105-150 dollars a night- which is going to be about what you're looking at. If you REALLY want a pool, you'll probably have to go out to Virginia or Maryland to find one.

The Zoo is on the Red line at a station named "Woodley Park/ Zoo - Adams Morgan" Source(s): http://www.daysinn.com/daysinn/control/b...

Other Travel Tips
How about hotels near a Metro Station like the Gaithersburg Hilton?
The Holiday Inn on 15th and Rhode Island Ave is within walking distance of the dupont circle metro stop-- it's on the red line and only 1 metro stop away from the zoo. That's a more affordable hotel with a rooftop pool in a nice neighborhood.
I live near this hotel.
go to search and you'll find places
Abandon the pool option, unless you have an extra arm or leg.
Try the Kalorama Guest House or the Woodley Park Guest House. Both are very nice European style B&Bs very close to the zoo in expensive residential neighborhoods. If you're set on using a pool, with a fraction of what you'll save, pay the guest fee and use the nearby Washington Hilton's or Omni Shoreham's outdoor pool. The Omni especially is a short walk from both of the guesthouses. Call the hotels for information, it's usually around $10-$12 for a day pass.
