Need location of ghetto in Washington DC? |
Travel Info I am writing a book which I would like to make as realistic as possible and would like a name(s) of ghettos in Washington DC. I've searched government housing developments and police districts for crime and it seems like the south east has a good deal of crime, and the rate is climbing, but I would like actual names, and -- to be honest-- I'm a little afriad to just cruise the area and search. Just to add -- the people living in this area are not going to be portrayed in a negative light -- I just want realism with names and locations. Thanks! Travel Tips Sursum Corda housing project is the most infamous. Others i know that there are ghettos in Arlington and its real slummy there. its well known that you dont go there after a certain time of the day unless u wanna get shot. Anacostia, i think it's in SE DC. lol good luck...be careful Make a trip to Washington DC as a fact-finding trip. Go to some of the police precincts, ask questions, get an appointment with the mayor (he is a real publicity hound), do some police ride-a-longs, etc. Read some books by George Pelokonas and plagerize from him. His books are all about life in DC and the burbs. Anacostia. Anacostia is one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city, but in general anywhere in Southeast DC is pretty bad. I don't know any specific housing projects though No offense, but how realistic can it be if you're afraid to even go to the areas you want to write about? And a few answers off of Yahoo isn't going to help much. If you really are a serious about this, start by reading the back issues of the Washington Post metro section for, oh, the last 5 to 20 years. Read the crime novels of George Pelecanos, who is the bard of DC streets. And read Pulitzer Prize winner Edward P. Jones' two volumes of beautiful, evocative short stories set in DC, where he grew up. Then if you're still scared, call up the police in the areas you're interested in and ask to go on a ridealong. And volunteer in the schools and libraries in those areas. Then perhaps you'll be ready to start writing. |
