My roommate is coming to visit me in DC and wants to go to monuments etc....? |
Travel Info I am more than happy to take her, but I have not gone on a tour of the mall since I was about 6 years old! What are the closest metro stops to the mall and the monuments and such? Travel Tips When I have people visit me I always meet them at one of the Farragut Stops downtown, walk to the White House from there, then down the ellipse and to the washington Monument. Then you hang a right toward the Lincoln, and hit the WWII, Vietnam, Lincoln, Korean, and FDR monument. Then pick up a cab and head to whereever you want to go. For a tour of the Smithsonians, the closest metro stop is, well, Smithsonian on the Blue and Orange lines. The Archives / Navy Memorial stop on the Green line is also close to the National Galleries on the north side of the mall. There really isn't a metro anywhere close to the Lincoln. That's why I usually try to end around there and catch a cab for dinner. Others If u live in northern VA you coul take the orange line to the Smithsonian metro station. Its is right there at the mall.and if u are travelling from somewhere else just go to the website for the metro.it is very helpful. www.wmata.com hope u have a good time in DC.I absolutely love to go there. I agree with Brodyburks, indeed Lincoln Memorial is a good mile from any metro station (and the best one is probably Smithsonian) If you 're into walking, at the end of Brodyburks' walk head over to the tidal basin and check out the FDR memorial and The Jefferson memorial. Other things your roomate might want to see include the Capitol (get there relatively early to tour the inside), the National Archives, the Library of Congress. And of Course the Smithsonian is at the Smithsonian Station - most of it (National Portrait Gallery/American Art, Renwick Gallery, Anacostia Museum, Postal Museum and the National Zoo are off the mall). If you have multiple days in the city check some of these out, too. And three really interesting non-public museums worth checking out are the Spy Museum, the Holocaust Museum, and the Corcoran. the Smithsonian stop on the metro, just ask the metro worker and he'll tell you |
