R Delaware and Maryland be considered northeast type states these days? |
Travel Info Techinally now, there considered 'southern states' by the U.S. census, but due to the proximity to Washington D.C. and the Northeastern states like Penn. and New York. One would expect them to be more culturally and politically blue these days. After all,how more different Wilmington,Delaware is to El Paso Texas after all. Travel Tips They are border states. If there is no Mid-Atlantic category, then they would have to be sorted differently depending on the factors in consideration. There is still a lot of Southern culture but urbanization from DC is increasing. Food-wise, they're definately Southern. Linguistically, I'd say they're Southern. Politically, they lean slightly to the North because the liberals win statewide elections more often but local elections are pretty evenly split and several regions flip between liberal and conservative. Others i am from delaware. i live in california now and have been here for the last 8 years. never ever have we considered us as southern. delaware and maryland are on the mason dixon line. we were not considered yankees, nor were we considered confederates. we were more the nuetral. so to consider us southern to me is crazy. also, trying to compare wilmington, delaware to el paso, texas is absolutely crazy. you are talking about a whole state that has less than a million people in it, to a state that it takes you an entire day to travel across. there is no comparison. DE and MD (along with VA and DC) are usually considered to lie in the mid-Atlantic region of the country. |
