Travel Tips
Every city and town on this earth has a problem with crime and homelessness. Both are global problems that no one seems to have found the answers to. (sadly) The "fancy" hotels sometimes give the food at their restaurants which is left over and thrown out otherwise, to the homeless. I see that more as compassion and a "good" thing. If the people in their lobbies are bothering people, then police are called. The downtown area is a bit more tolerant of people who have not chosen to be homeless, than say a homeless person hanging out at St Vital Mall, or at a bus stop in Crescentwood. Homeless doesn't always mean "bad person"...it means a person who needs help.

Bikers and hookers. While there are some biker problems in some areas of the city, I never had a problem. As someone else said, you leave them alone, and they will leave you alone. Let the police handle that. Hookers...I refer back to my previous statement on homeless people. There are not many hookers that have "chosen" that profession. And, looking at logically, if there wasn't the "demand" for a hooker, the "supply" would dwindlle. People that use hookers are not the sterotype.

Crime...crime stops and ends with the people. Many areas are vigilant and do not tolerate what they can see. Other areas have bigger problems than the crime that comes out of it all. Every place has crime. Winnipeg is no worse than many other areas.

Making it out alive...pretty good as long as you lose the negative attitude about Winnipeg. Bad mouth The Peg while you are there and you may become a statistic. We Peggers are loyal, even when we see our own shortcomings.

Go to a Moose or GoldEyes game. Check out The Forks or Museum of Man & Nature. (and Planetarium) Go to the Ballet. Go for a nature walk at Birds Hill or Fort Whyte Alive. Go to the zoo and see some beautiful creatures. The Red River Ex or Taste of Manitoba in the summer, Festival du Voyageur in the winter. Take a a Spash Dash boat and see where the 2 rivers meet.

Above all...keep your eyes open to the good since you seem to be LOOKING for the bad.

I don't know where you get your information from....
Every city has homeless people....Winnipeg is no worse than any other. If they are in the lobby of fancy hotels, that would mean that Winnipeg is a more compassionate city.
The same applies to bikers and hookers....no worse than any other city.....Winnipeg does not have a highest crime rate in Canada...just auto theft....possibly because politicians in Ottawa won't move their collective butts and punish young offenders.....as well, maybe young people in the other cities are not smart enough to steal cars. Winnipeg is quite safe, but like any other large city, you don't wander down dark alleys in the downtown area. As far as entertainment, there is lots to do......But, if you think so lowly of Winnipeg, why go there at all??????
Lived in Winnipeg area all my life
You have never been to Winnipeg have you?
A - We have relatively few bikers in relation to other major cities, like Montreal, and very little biker violence.
B - It is harder to find hookers on the streets than it is in places like Edmonton and Calgary.
C - Edmonton is the murder capital of Canada.
D - Every city in the world has some homeless people. You assertion that homeless live in fancy hotel lobbies is ludicrous.
Don't bother coming, we don't want idiots like you in our beautiful part of the country, because you would only see what you wanted to see anyway. I have seen your other answer on Winnipeg, you obviously get your world information from the National Enquirer.
