We all agree that it is.
By the simple definition of addition and the quantities the numbers represent.
umm....because its common knowledge.... thats just how the number system works?!?!
We learned that in the first grade...you might have been absent on that day.
Four is but a name tht we chose to assigned to that quantity.

In other cultures and other languages, Four is nothing but strange gibberish.

2 + 2 does not equal four. It's simply equal a quantity that is of the amount
